Tales of the South is proud to offer a unique tour through our home state that is sure to please. Let us introduce you to the unique regions, out of the way treasures and quirky characters of the state we call home. Landmarks are a great part of visiting any area, but to truly experience a place, you need to meet the “locals” in order to capture the local “flavor”.
So, hang on to your pearls or your loosen up your necktie and prepare for an exciting week of down home fun as we get off the main roads and see the true south we call home. We warn you, before you get to know us, we’ll get to know you first. All Southerners are a bit nosey. Prying is in our nature. We’ve prepared a few questions for you to be thinking about as we travel through Georgia. Open up, lean back and let’s go!
Day One
Atlanta- Madam/Sir, What is Your Profession? ……………………….. Any self respecting Southerner has business in Atlanta and of course they will want to know yours. We will focus on some of the "Big Business" of Atlanta today!
Mid Morning Arrival in "Hot Atlanta" - by coach or air.
Our first Stop of the day is to the Cyclorama to see the battle of the "Late Great Unpleasantness". Atlanta was the hub of the all the major railroads of the south. It's important to remind ourselves of the past in order to see where we are going. Then we're off to see how Coca Cola impacted the New South and gave rise to giant tycoons like Ted Turner of CNN and Turner Studios. Finally we'll take a look at Home Depot ‘s new addition to downtown, "The Atlanta Aquarium".

Day Two
Athens Madam/Sir, Where did you attend school? ………………..Education is very important and any self respecting Georgian graduates from UGA. We also know that next to God, Football is the number two religion in the South! God forbid you say you went to University of Florida or Auburn.
Breakfast at the hotel
Depart Atlanta for a unique road trip to Athens Georgia. We'll take time to visit the home of the first state-chartered university in the country. Athens has always been the home of visionaries. The eclectic downtown is as diverse as the students and locals that call this home.
We are invited this morning for a City and Campus Tour. Your tour includes entrances to the UGA Sports Hall of Fame as well as one of Athens' newest house museums.
Lunch is on your own in one of the many eclectic and great luncheon spots downtown. We have a dine around list prepared to help with the decision making. Enjoy free time to explore the many shops and galleries of downtown.

Dinner: A progressive Dinner is the best way to experience the fare of Athens. Hop from one restaurant to the next, sampling the best of all worlds one course at a time. Following dinner, our hotel is only a stroll away. Those that decide to be adventuresome can check out a bit of the nightlife. We suggest an evening at the Melting Point, listening to singer songwriters of the area to cap off the end of a perfect day.
Day Three
Washington Madam/Sir, What is your Grandmother's maiden name?……………. Washington was the last meeting place of the Confederate Cabinet. The bloodlines run long and deep here. Remember Ancestor Worship is a valid religion in the south and all southerners are taught at birth to recite their linage on both sides of the tree. Please remember that you are no different and they will expect this from you.

Morning Coffee at Jittery Joes, a local roasting plant. Whether a coffee connoisseur or novice you'll love seeing how your coffee bean makes it from the mountain to cup!
Depart Athens for Washington
Meet our guide for a day of down home fun. Our first business of the day is to get acquainted. Our host or hostess will give us an overview tour. We'll get to know all the major families and the stories behind all these wonderful old homes, because believe me later, everyone will want to know all about you.
Following our tour we will be invited for a private luncheon in a historic home.
Our entertainment for lunch will be a local storyteller that is sure to please.

Before returning for the day to Athens we stop in Watkinsville Georgia for a Wine and Cheese reception at Ashford Manor
Dinner is with the "Iron Chef" of Watkinsville. Recently chef, Jose Zambrano of the restaurant , Girasoles, has had the priveledge filming an episode of Food Networks "Iron Chef" competition. Who knows he may be the next Paula Deen in the making, and you got to see him first. This will be a unique evening to experience fabulous cuisine and great company.
Day Four
Madison Georgia Madam/Sir What ‘s your religion?…………………….No matter where your loyalties, remember today your Baptist or Methodist.

Savannah Georgia Madam/Sir What would you like to drink? Savannah is known for its charming southern hospitality, matter of fact it's the "Hospitality City of the South". So after the southern inquisition we've put you through, we figured you deserved a drink!

Day Five
Breakfast at the hotel. Your trolley departs at 10:00 a.m. for a true southern treat: a private tour of the lovely squares of Savannah, and a luncheon and afternoon in the heart of the historic district. After spending the morning trolleying through the elegant squares, you will stop and sip on mint juleps served on the veranda of the Metts-McNeal Mansion, an elegant 19th century home on lovely Forsyth Park. Afterward, you will retire to the Mansion's charming dining room where you will enjoy a traditional southern meal from the kitchen of the famous Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, one of Savannah's oldest and most cherished restaurants. Sample such southern cuisine as fried chicken, homemade biscuits and cornbread, collard greens, sweet potatoes, butter beans, okra, macaroni and cheese—the list goes on and on. You will be entertained by Ms. Mandy Nichols of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". She will weave the tale of the "Midnight" mystery and sing a song or two. After lunch, you will again board your trolley and continue to hear the stories of this beautiful belle called Savannah, and hear the stories of James Edward Oglethorpe, the ghosts, and the characters of the city. You will also see why Savannah is referred to as the Garden of Good and Evil as we explore the beautiful squares and hidden gated gardens of this truly spectacular city.
Return to hotel late afternoon
Evening and supper on your own, that is if you're still hungry after your dinner.
