Tour & Travel » Sister Cities: Savannah, Charleston

Day One
After Arriving to Savannah, we will make a brief stop at our hotel within the historic district to check-in and then we are off for an afternoon tea with some of the finest gals in Savannah.  Step back into the old south and experience the charm classes a true southern lady would have been required to attend, and learn how traditions, etiquette and style transcend time. First, a southern lady is never fully dressed without her “chapeau,” and the choice of a hat not only makes a statement of who you are, but also indicates where you might be going!  Tales of the South will present a hat fashion show featuring the finest in fashion hats of the south. Enjoy hats from Scarlet’s closet,” and “Jackie O’s dressing room,” to what is new today. Designer hats handcrafted by “Grace” of Charleston and “Ignatius” of Richmond will be showcased. Next, hear the history of the fan, THE instrument of conversation for men and women in the high-browed 1800’s, and enjoy an elegant afternoon Victorian tea

Day Two
After breakfast our day begins with a tour featuring two significant happenings in Savannah: “the book”, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ and the world famous cooking entrepreneur, Paula Dean. Your guide will focus on reliving the events that made this novel so famous and Ms. Paula Deen such a worldwide phenomenon.   Learn of the events and locations of the actual story lines first hand! The tour also includes a visit out to Bonaventure Cemetery, “the garden of good and evil”, and entertainment by the Voodoo Priestess Maressee. This will be truly a day of enlightenment as we learn of the presence and practice of Voodoo in the Savannah Low Country and how southern cuisine proves to be simply irresistible. Following our tour enjoy some free time on River Street for Lunch and Shopping.   Dinner tonight is at Lady and Sons.  A Trolley will wait from the Lobby of your hotel to take you to dinner.

Day Three
Breakfast at the hotel.  Your trolley departs at 10:00 a.m. for a true southern treat: a private tour of the lovely squares of Savannah, and a luncheon and afternoon in the heart of the historic district. After spending the morning trolleying through the elegant squares, you will stop and sip on mint juleps served on the veranda of the Metts-McNeal Mansion, an elegant 19th century home on lovely Forsyth Park. Afterward, you will retire to the Mansion’s charming dining room where you will enjoy a traditional southern meal from the kitchen of the famous Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, one of Savannah’s oldest and most cherished restaurants. Sample such southern cuisine as fried chicken, homemade biscuits and cornbread, collard greens, sweet potatoes, butter beans, okra, macaroni and cheese—the list goes on and on. You will be entertained by Ms. Mandy Nichols of “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”.   She will weave the tale of the “Midnight” mystery and sing a song or two. After lunch, you will again board your trolley and continue to hear the stories of this beautiful belle called Savannah, and hear the stories of James Edward Oglethorpe, the ghosts, and the characters of the city.  You will also see why Savannah is referred to as the Garden of Good and Evil as we explore the beautiful squares and hidden gated gardens of this truly spectacular city.

Day Four
Breakfast at the hotel. Board your motor coach for your trip to Charleston. You’ll stop and be treated to a tour of Magnolia Plantation, an elegant “lady of the south.” You’ll stroll through the lovely gardens and return to an era when life was slow and easy. After lunch at Magnolia Plantation, you’ll continue on to the heart of Charleston where you’ll have time to check-in to your hotel in the heart of the historic district. We’ll take time to refresh and relax before enjoying an early dinner in the historic district.

Day Five
Breakfast at the hotel. Tales of the South will treat you to a carriage tour of the city. The only way to truly see the historic district is to walk or to see these architectural gems by carriage. This is sure to be a morning to savor.  Lunch is on your own in the famous City Market of Charleston.  After lunch enjoy free time to shop and explore the market and Charleston’s famous King Street.  You will not want to miss your opportunity to watch the artists of the Gullah culture make their one-of-a-kind sweet grass baskets. Tonight we will enjoy a farewell dinner atop the Vendue Inn overlooking the famous Charleston Harbor.  This will be a night to recall with many fond memories for years to come.

Day Six
Breakfast at the hotel. Your final event before leaving for the airport will be a perimeter tour of the city.  Tales of the South will treat you to a tour of the famous battery overlooking the Atlantic Ocean as well as a visit to the Charleston Citadel. In the end, we hope to have started a love affair, with two belles that will last a lifetime.
